A Dog Named Roxy....

Check out this e-mail we got from one of our friends....

Dear Roxy Company,
    Hello, I have a dog and her name is Roxy and she does the cutest thing. My mom bought your boots and left them outside her closet and a few minutes later she left. While I was at home with the dog alone I realized that Roxy was being very quiet so I looked everywhere and she was in the strangest place...she was in one of the Roxy boots asleep. Every night that's where she sleeps, either in or on top of the boots.
    One time my mom put the boots in her closet and Roxy whined and whined until my mom opened the closet. Roxy ran in and she tried to drag the boot out so my mom took them out and she sat right in the top of them.
    I have some cute pictures of Roxy and the Roxy boots.

SOFIA MULANOVICH WINS THE ROXY PRO!

Heavy 6-8 feet conditions (with occasionally 10ft waves coming through), a group of the best women surfers in the world, and a run for the world championship title on the line....and Sofia Mulanovich stepped it up to fly past her competitors and crown herself the 2007 Roxy Pro Champion! With only one more world tour event left this year, Sofia is now 2nd in the world and only needs 99 point to win the 2007 world title. After watching Sofia dominate her final heat, current leader Stephanie Gilmore congratulated her win and told the crowd "game on".  The final WCT event will be the last of the Triple Crown series and begins in Maui on Dec.8th. In the meantime Sofia can smile and celebrate her surfing today, 'cause she's bringing her A-game!

Next Generation Roxy

Did I mention how big & scary the waves are during winter here on the North Shore? Well imagine you are 5 ft tall and 14 years old....you'd think you'd be frighten to step even near the mountainous barreling sets. But not these Roxy chicklets! They have been taking the North Shore by STORM. I caught up with the little superstars at a Roxy photo shoot, and got myself introduced to the best young surfers from around the world. A few of them even competed in the elite Roxy Pro trials today, where they showed off their incredible talent and potential. Have a pen handy to write down these names, 'cause these girls are going to take the future of women's surfing to a whole new level.

Roxy Pro Hawaii Holding Period Starts!

Aloha Friends!
I'm writing you from the porch of the Roxy Team house at Sunset Beach in Oahu. It's got a ridiculously sweet view of the ocean, and when the light pours through my window in the morning I wake up to sunshine and a perfect surf check. Tons and tons of waves out here but still considered a bit small for the infamous North Shore, so the official Roxy Pro contest is in a holding period. Though it's been "too small" to hold a big wave contest for the best women pro surfers, don't get the wrong idea!! These waves are big and powerful, and there's been enough of a fun break for the pro girls to get out there and practice, play around on longboards, and get tons of photos taken. All the top professional photographers and videographers are out here snapping shots for surfing magazines and film, and this place is definitely the mecca of surfing!! I'm stoked to be giving you updates on the action, and I'll be posting all the latest news right here on roxy.com. There will be stories, goofy pictures, and behind the scene videos of the girls. In fact check back soon for a video from my first day at the house in Hawaii....

Aloha with great news!! ROXY's Megan Abubo is the 2007 Reef Hawaiian Pro Champion! The event was held in 3-5ft surf with a building swell! By Megan winning this event she not only requalified onto the 2008 ASP Womens World Circut Tour; she is well on her way to winning the Triple Crown Title! I saw FEIST last night!!!

It was so much fun.  She played at the Gibson Amphitheater and her label Interscope hooked me up with some backstage tickets.  Backstage it was fun to celebrity watch.  I saw Mary-Kate Olsen and Kirstin Dunst hanging out with friends.  Spoon opened for Feist and they were amazing too.

Hawaiian Triple Crown has started!!

Check out the Hawaiian Triple Crown!  It started today with beautiful hawaiian conditions and 3-5ft surf at Haleiwa Beach Park; the first of 3 stops on the Triple Crown.  You will see all of the top surfers battling it out for the honor of winning the Title of the Hawaiian Triple Crown!  You can bet that ROXY's Sofia Mulanovich will be surfing her way to defending her 2006 Hawaiian Triple Crown Title.  Best of luck

Feelin' FEIST-Y

I actually missed Feist's first album, because I bought Keren Ann around the same time and mistakenly assumed I didn't need two Adorably Sad soundtracks. But then I heard '1234' on the Roxy Music From Our Heart compilation this summer (I got your back, Roxy Marketing Dept!), and fell in love with Miss Leslie Feist.

So that brings me to Saturday. Met my girls for ramen and boy gossip first. Then Erin and I trudged up a signature San Francisco hill to the Masonic Auditorium and were rewarded with the following phenomena, all in one concert:
shadow puppets
finger painting
Feist bird sounds
a Feist chorus sung entirely by Feist
one big disco ball
one trumpet
a Bon Jovi-inspired power ballad
excellent red tights

and two hours of a voice like sea foam. Or a smooth pebble. Or mountain stream water. I've been trying to find the words to describe that voice for two days now, but it defies language. She sounds incredible on her albums, but literally unbelievable live.

You really should go. Make it a Lady Date.

This Swedish combo has me jumping on my bed! The garage style tunes of Mando Diao have been rocking the world since 1999 when a local Swedish writer called them the "worst unsigned band" he had ever seen. I loudly disagree!

Volunteer!

During the horrible fires that we experienced in Southern California, I answered the plea for volunteers and donations. In my web travels I came across Servenet.org. Servenet is a new website created by Youth Service America (YSA), a resource center and the premier alliance of 200+ organizations committed to increasing the quantity and quality of opportunities for young Americans to serve locally, nationally, or globally.

The site is simple to use and I could easily find volunteer opportunities near me by typing in my zip code and looking at the different groups and the types of volunteers needed. You can match your skill with a group. Go Volunteer!

Roxy Surf Camp Costa Rica

We traveled down to Costa Rica this past week for the Roxy Surf Camp with CW Now. It was so much fun hanging out with Andrea, Mitzam and the crew, they are absolutely darling and the best hostesses ever. Here is some behind-the-scenes footage from the Turtle Nursery next to the surf camp in Playa Hermosa. Every night the mama turtles lay eggs on the beach and the people at the nursery collect the eggs and protect them until they hatch. Once the baby turtles hatch they are released into the ocean.
